I only played this once but this version stuck with me due to how unexpected and dark the twist-ending was. The only way to properly start over was to clear your browser cache. The game cached in your web browser, so if you refreshed you still saw the same thing. The first time you died, instead of respawning, the player was treated to a rather extensive sequence of scenes showing the police cordoning off the area where Mario died, Toad being questioned by police, Peach showing up crying and mourning, and finally after everyone clears out, the screen just lingers on the spot where you died and you never respawn. ![]() Gameplay-wise this version was identical, but with a major twist. had a muted color scheme that contrasted with the cartoony vibe of the official games.
